What to expect: Streamlined all-white sofas and chairs, Art Deco architectural features, and a huge vintage Vornado fan by the front door give the lobby of the Hotel Astor the look of an old movie set. Perhaps that’s why models, photographers, celebrities, and folks from the entertainment and fashion industries are so comfortable here. Amenity highlights: The three-story hotel has a popular lobby bar and a lower-level restaurant (The Metro Kitchen and Bar) that serves modern American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant looks out on a dining patio with tropical gardens and a waterfall wall. Insider tip: The hotel was originally built in 1936 and retains many original architectural features in the lobby. In fact, the hotel is one of the stops on the neighborhood's Art Deco tour. Of special note is a wall panel next to the check-in counter made of Vitrolite, a special type of pigmented structural glass. A plaque on the wall relates the important details.

The three-floor, 40-room Hotel Astor is located three blocks from the beach and from the trendy cafés and nightclubs of South Beach. The hotel has a lovely side garden patio bar and dining area with a soothing waterfall wall. A popular restaurant, The Metro Kitchen and Bar, is located on the lower level and looks out on the patio area. The hotel was originally constructed in 1936 and was renovated in 1995 and in 2002. The original exterior façade has been maintained, as have many Art Deco indoor architectural features.
